FDA recently released updated guidance to help industry protect the food supply from intentional sabotage and comply with the final rule on Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration under FSMA. This rule, which is the first of its kind, requires covered facilities to prepare and implement food defense plans. To help industry comply with the new rule, the agency has released two of three installments of draft guidance. To help in interpreting this new guidance and understanding FDA’s expectations for compliance, PTNPA is holding a webinar on May 15, 2019, from 1-2pm ET. The webinar will be presented by Elizabeth Fawell of Hogan Lovells.

The rule is new regulatory territory for both FDA and the industry, so as the first compliance date draws near—July 2019—it is critical to fully understand the FDA’s thinking so that you can properly plan and allocate resources.

This webinar will address:
• The regulatory requirements of the Intentional Adulteration rule
• FDA’s guidance on how to develop a food defense plan, including:
- the components of the food defense plan;
- how to conduct vulnerability assessments using the key activity type method or using the 3 fundamental elements in the regulation;
- how to identify and implement mitigation strategies; and
- food defense monitoring requirements
• The training requirements in the rule
• FDA’s plans for inspections
• Additional information FDA presented at the recent Public Meeting on the IA rule

There will be ample opportunity to ask questions about the rule and best practices for developing food defense plans.
