Maile Hermida has considerable experience with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), having worked with numerous companies and trade associations on all aspects of the law since the day it was signed. She translates her in-depth knowledge of FSMA into practical solutions for companies working on implementation strategies. She also frequently presents trainings related to FSMA compliance and preparedness. Reflecting her deep involvement with all things FSMA, Maile is a Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) Lead Instructor for the Preventive Controls for Human Food training and an FSPCA Trainer of Trainers and Lead Instructor for the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) training.
Emily joined Ag Council in 2008 and became President in 2010. She manages the organization and handles regulatory and budget policy matters on behalf of Ag Council members. Prior to her work with Ag Council, Emily served as director of farm policy for the California Farm Bureau Federation where she represented the interests and objectives of California’s farmers and ranchers as they relate to farm policy, tax and biotech issues before the U.S. government and administrative bodies. In addition, Emily has legislative experience in Washington, D.C. where she worked for two members of Congress advising on issues including agriculture, budget, taxes and judiciary matters.
Dave Cook is the President of Commercial Quality & Food Safety Solutions. Dave is retired from a 26-year career at Kraft Foods with extensive Quality, Food Safety & Risk Management experience. He has held 14 leadership positions with increasing responsibility including Director of Compliance & Integrity, 5 Business Unit Quality Director positions, retiring as Director of Global Auditing, CAPA, Risk Management, Policy, Training & Export. Dave serves as the Lead Instructor for Food Safety Preventive Controls and Foreign Supplier Verification Programs.
Dave Wankowski possesses an extensive background in global regulatory compliance, auditing, food safety, quality systems and food defense. Dave has played key industry coalition roles, including GFSI auditor competency committee, Grocery Manufacturers Association, AFFI, International Dairy Foods Association and Institute of Food Technologists. He worked closely with US (FDA, USDA, DHS, CBP), state food authorities and foreign governments regarding food safety policy and regulatory reform. His work has led to significant advancements with forming regulatory rule understanding and compliance to the FDA Bioterrorism Act, GMP modernization, reportable food registry, Listeria monocytogenes regulatory limits, Control of Salmonella in Low-Moisture Foods and FSMA.
Jim Cook serves as the Food Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Manager at SGS Global. Jim has been working with SGS since 2009 handling food and food contact technical issues for the Agriculture, Food and Life group. Jim is now the Chairperson for the Global Food Inspection Technical committee. Jim has more than 35 years quality assurance and technical experience in the food retailing, manufacturing and private brand brokerage business.
Sanjay Gummalla is currently Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, at the American Frozen Food Institute. His broad industry background and expertise in food science, food safety, and nutrition are key to guiding policy advocacy and developing effective regulatory programs and practical scientific tools for the food and beverage industry. He is in the forefront of Listeria policy efforts in his engagement with FDA, USDA, and state authorities, and leads efforts to develop best food safety practices for the frozen food industry and executing their Listeria monocytogenes strategy.
Dr. Anderson joined the FDA in 2006 as a Research Agricultural Engineer. He currently serves as a technical expert in the review of pasteurization and sterilization processes and aseptic packaging technologies submitted to the FDA. Dr. Anderson leads the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) Low Moisture Foods Safety Task Force and is investigating methods for microbial decontamination of these foods. Dr. Anderson serves in administrative and scientific leadership positions in professional organizations and food safety research programs including appointments to the Board of Directors for the Institute for Thermal Processing Specialists (2015-present) and the Editorial Board for the Food Protection Trends (2011-present).
